"The Binary Qabalah is the basic division of the Tree of Life
into Right and Left, Above and Below, and Front and Behind,
where two basic correspondences are brought out: Right = Above
= Positive = 1, Left = Below = Behind = 0. From these two basic
divisions the complete Universe can be classified, which in
essence is the basis for the ten basic divisions of the Tree of
Life (referred to as Sephiroth, circles, or numbers)."

you wonder how you communicated with the deer and knew where

Care2.com Featured Website(s)
EMagazine.com
Soundwaters.org
Bioneers.org
Enn.com
Envirolink.netforchange.com
I was reminded of several of these sites, and yes, they do need
to be featured in any Earth Day newsletter, so I wanted to cap
off the Earth Day issue of two weeks ago with a follow up. I
will review some of these in greater depth in the future. Every
one of the sites listed here is incredible in it's depth and
content offered, or in it's mission. I recommend that you spend
some time at each of these sites at some point in the near future
to familiarize yourself with the awesome power that can wielded
with the Internet and it's worldwide reach.
Care2.com is a great place for connecting to other 'green
people'. The site has been available for many years and now
claims to be the "largest global community on the Web for
environmentally conscious consumers" featuring 1.4 million
members! The site started out as an online greeting card site,
but changed to the environmental features with community, news
and shopping in September 1999. I remember visiting this site
when it was still care-mail. The site now features channels of
information in Home, Pets, Garden and Money categories, free web-
based Email for anyone. Check out the EcoInfo tab for a huge
list of site information, links, and articles. Find a park, or
locate other local information for environmental groups near you.
Emagazine.com is the sister site to this print magazine which
features well laid out online articles from this magazine which
started publication in January 1990. There is an archive of back
issues, a marketplace for Green goods and even an Ask E form for
submitting questions to the editors. Sign up for a free trial
issue to one of the longest running environmental magazines that
still puts out a great magazine.
Soundwaters.org is a Long Island Sound education website focused
on providing quality education and events for those in the North
East. I highly recommend it for anyone, and especially for
teachers as the education ideas offered here are extraordinary.
They feature culture, history, conservation and wildlife issues
through excellent lectures, quality music events, and inspiring
programs.
Bioneers.org is run by the Collective Heritage Institute who has
a mission that fits in perfectly with providing for a future
of visionary interaction between the Earth and human culture. I
highly recommend membership in this group which features a yearly
conference and is working strongly to revitalize the spiritual
man/nature connection that is so vitally important in our modern
industrial culture. They also work to provide a resource for
alternative agriculture and farming which brings together
communities of people through economic models which support
traditional and indigenous cultures. Visit the site for a quick
overview of what they are working on, then sign up for a
membership.
Enn.com, Environmental News Network has been around for a long
time - 1993, and since 1995 they've been hard at work alerting
the world to environmental issues on the internet. The site is
a treasure trove of resources including in-depth topics on global
warming, alternative energy and many other topics. There is also
multimedia features, forums, a marketplace of products, and up-to-
the-minute environmental news - highly recommended.
The Envirolink Network found at: Envirolink.netforchange.com
provides in depth articles, progressive career information and
environmental products. From the select box in the upper right
you can choose from Animal Concerns, Envirolink, or Sustainable
Business network. Each of these provide for an incredible amount
of information, links, discussion forums, news, actions, and
event calendars. They are also responsible for the
GreenMarketplace, a huge list of Green products that is not to be
missed. You will find anything you are looking for here, I promise!

Huna healing from Hawaii (pt. 3) by Brett Simpson
This third and final article on huna philosophy from Polynesia
will focus on comparing how the huna philosophy and healing
methods are different, or similar to others. I think that we should
first think about where these teachings came from.
The Hawaiians speak of passing down the information verbally,
like many earlier cultures recommend. It is important to note
that this seems to be the only way that these traditions were
passed on, yet why was that required? Was it because the
teacher was able to transmit more information when the lessons
were taught by their own voice? Is something passed on 'in
person' that cannot be received from a book?
I like to think that both of these are true. Part of the
importance of the huna philosophy is the nature of sound and how
it is used - there are many Hawaiian chants that are known for
there powerful and great healing powers, so it seems quite clear
to me that the importance of vibrational healing was very highly
regarded by the Polynesian people.
The roots of the huna wisdom were reportedly passed down from 812
generations - an incredible 26,000 years! While searching for a
root race, it seems that this one, along with the aboriginal
teachings are some of the original teachings to appear on the
planet. As I like to go back to the beginning to find the
source of all things.
Many westerners speak of similar principles such as the
collective unconscious that we have discussed in previous
articles, and the connection to the mind/body aspect of healing.
But those teachings must have been learned or recognized from
before, perhaps from the huna abilities that we all hold within
our DNA?
The word huna has as it's root a word that means peaceful unity,
in a cooperative sense. If we can achieve this unity with all
living things, then certainly we would be at peace, for we would
truly understand and empathize with every living thing on the
planet.
The kahuna teaches of an instant healing, one that happens
instantaneously and that allows the shadow body to recreate or
heal the part of the body that is diseased or broken. Before
this type of healing can take place though, it is important that
there is no doubt or sin, and that all guilt has been cleared
away. The kahuna refers to these elements as a complex or
fixation which must be healed. This may be at work when other creatures such as
salamanders or frogs are able to grow new limbs, or tails if they
have been injured. Are the animals pure in their thoughts and
knowledge of truth to facilitate the healing easier than humans!
Remember from the first article in this series that it is
necessary to have the correct attitude of joy and appreciation to
communicate or have a connection to the Aumakua (over-soul or God
spirit). The kahuna believes that any complex, or fixation at
the lowest level (the Unihipili or heart self), prevents the
higher self or over-soul from activating the healing. Certainly
in modern psychology we can see this same definition and
explanation of lower self complexes, neuroses or illnesses as
preventing us from growing, or healing ourselves at higher
levels.
The higher level healings are those which seem to be more
permanent, effective and powerful. If we can learn to remove
the lower level complexes we will eventually be able to heal
ourselves at all levels and allow our souls to go back into
alignment with the higher soul or God spirit that watches over
each of us. Again, we see a strong connection here to modern
religion and spirituality. Have the ancient traditions passed
down from Polynesian culture, and others such as Aboriginal
Australia, and Egyptian been part of our own genetic makeup?
The connection from huna philosophy and the beliefs of the
trinity (lower, middle, higher self), or the four worlds of
experience (objective, subjective, symbolic, holistic) as well
as the seven principles of huna seem to reflect a deeper
awareness that is similar to modern religions and philosophies.
Perhaps some of the aspects of the principles of the teachings
were lost as they were passed to those who did not respect them
in the same way.

Spirit of the Forest 1993 by Baka Beyond
Review by Brett Simpson
There is not enough good words I can say about this recording.
It is simply incredible and needs to be heard to understand.
Martin Cradick a guitarist with the group Outback went into South
East Cameroon, Africa to live for a while with the Baka Pygmy
people of the region. What resulted was several CD's of recorded
material which Martin later re-worked back home in the studio.
Follow up trips and collaborations have resulted in the
indigenous people creating their own record label, side musician
recordings and even 'bootlegs' of some of the original Baka
material and concerts. Certainly Martin's guitar work adds
tremendously to the music here, but it is the rhythmic patterns,
flutes, talking drums, limbindi and voices of the Baka people
which hold my attention throughout the entire CD.
Each song has a unique style to it, that is hard to describe. I
would say the sound is somewhere between steel drum music from
Jamaica, Celtic reels and jigs and the distinctive rhythms of
Africa that many have heard on later Paul Simon albums. Overall
though it's a joyful sound, one of inspiration, happiness, and
one that wants you to get up and dance: the Baka do not have a
different word for song/music and dance. It means the same thing
to them; you will soon hear why.
The CD begins with sounds of the crickets in the forest and
quickly leads into the voice of a Baka woman singing deep in the
forest which repeats throughout the track. The songs are quite
long (5, 6, 7 minutes each), uplifting and fascinating to hear at
first. After the first play though, I'll bet you get just as
hooked as I did, and it seems like you could leave this one run
all night without growing tired of what you are hearing.
I recommend that you visit the Baka website to make your purchase
as the sales/profits go directly to help the Baka people
establish an education center and to further guitar music and
song recording in the rainforest. You will also be treated to
some great pictures of the people and the life in the rainforest.
RATING: 5/5 - Magnificent Baka Pygmy recordings with guitar,
flute and sampled sounds added to create a truly unique and
inspirational CD.
